Agbamere autonomous community, Eha-Alumona has described their new Igwe designate, Chief Simon Ikechukwu Ugwu as a workaholic, vibrant and energetic philanthropist.
Speaking at the presentation of the Igwe designate to the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Council, Chief Hon. Patrick Kenechukwu Omeje, who was represented by his Vice Chairman, Hon. Cosmas Agbo at the council secretariat, the President–General of the Town Union, Dr. Emmanuel Eze noted with admiration that the Igwe designate was elected unopposed and accordingly emerged as the Igwe designate who is overwhelm acknowledged by the good people of the community.
Dr. Eze went down memory lane that the Agbamere Community was created in the year 2001 and that the first traditional rulers was His Royal Highness Igwe Patrick Ugwuoke Ezengwu who led the community until his demise on November 28, 2016 and was buried in February 2017, adding that the community mourned this death of the Patriot for a year and thereafter sought for a new leader.
According to the President–General, the journey to the selection of a new traditional ruler traditional ruler has not been easy, noting however that the selection of the Igwe was done in accordance with the constitution of the community.
He further revealed that at the expiration of the mourning period, the Town Union went into action by constituting a six-man committee for the selection and screening of Igwe aspirants in the community, stating that the committee members include Nichodemus Ugwu-Chairman, Ignatius Ugwoke Secretary and Chief Joe Omeje, Professor Ignatius Madu, Remain Asogwa and Meletus Attama as members.
Dr. Eze Said the illustrious sons of Agbamere did marvelously well and left nobody in doubt as to their competence and hand work by inviting applications from interested and qualified members of the community, stressing that the prospective applicants were given two months to submit their applications to the committee, noting that at the expiration of the period, only application was received, being the only person chief Simon Ugwu who applied for the exalted office.
In his response, the Igwe designate, Chief Simon Ugwu thanked the Agbamere Community for the honour done to him and assured them that he will not disappoint them.
The Igwe designate who was accompanied with his wife, Barr (Mrs) Ugwu Martina, said that by the grace of God that he would carry out his duty with a sense of responsibility it deserves.
