Tottenham, Celtic, Crystal Palace, Stoke and Sunderland have all been linked with the Republic of Ireland international in the not too distant past.

Everton could spark a January transfer scramble, according to the Daily Star, with James McCarthy seemingly set to be made available.

The Republic of Ireland international has struggled with injury this season, leaving Gareth Barry and Idrissa Gueye to nail down starting berths in Ronald Koeman’s plans.


McCarthy has been linked with Tottenham, Celtic, Sunderland, Stoke, Crystal Palace and West Brom in recent windows, and there would be no shortage of interest in his services were the Toffees to make it clear that they are open to offers.
