The community’s petition to the AIG
Inhabitants of Ito-Agan, a riverine community in Satellite Town, in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Ares, Lagos State, have petitioned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, zone 2, Onikan-Lagos, over the offensive role played by the men of Police Force, during invasion of their community by a suspected land grabber.
The community in the petition captioned: “Re-Ito-Agan Communal Invasion, the offensive role of men of the Nigeria Police acting in concert with thugs sponsored by Oba Radio Onisiwo, and led by Mr. Abiye Akinmuleya, a.k.a Ajase”, described the role played by the police as unfortunate scandalous.
The petition which was written by the community’s lawyer, Ige Asemudara, directed the attention of the AIG to a petition earlier written concerning the disturbance of peace in the community sometimes in March 29, 2018, in which they complained of assault and threat to the live of their head, Chief Lot Ikuesan, and other residents of the community.
They also stated that when it became clear that the police was not proactive on the complain, they approached a Lagos Magistrate for an order mandating the suspects to inta alia keep the peace of the community and restrained the said Abiye Akinmuleya from parading himself as Baale of Ito-Agan.
The community lawyer, Asemudara also lamented that despite the all steps taken by Chief Lot Ikuesan, who on August 5, reported a plot to kidnap him by Ajase and his cohort at Ilado Police Station, for investigation, but rather for the police to investigate the petition, they only turned against the old man and about 20 members of the community were arrested by police men from Ilado and Alakija Divisions, and Special anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja.
The petition also stated that while Chief Ikuesan was released on August 9, others were charged before a Magistrate court, and still being remanded.
The lawyer further stated in the petition that while Chief Ikuesan and other members of the community were being detained at SARS in Ikeja, the alleged land grabber with armed thugs, invaded the community and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira, forcefully ejecting others out of the community.
Asemudara also stated that his clients are still unable to return to their various homes in the community for fear of being of being killer under the full glare of Nigeria Policemen. Adding that since August 5, his clients are continuously being arrested and hounded into detention unlawfully at the instigation of a traditional ruler, who is using the alleged land grabber as a front in order to grab the community.
Asemudara also stated that the community’s leaders are still unable to access their homes, due to continued demolition of the houses by the said land grabber who is being backup by men of SARS.
The community lawyer therefore appealed to the AIG, to use his good office for prompt intervention and bring the menace to a stop, so that his clients’ confidence in the Nigeria Police can be restored.Finding by this medium at the Zone 2 Command on Nigeria Police force, Onikan, Lagos, confirmed that the AIG in-charge of the Zone, had indeed received the community’s petition, and accordingly ordered the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, to take urgent steps in addressing the situation in the community.
