The House of Representatives has called for synergy among security operatives in the country in order to swiftly put searchlight on violence video and threat posts on Social Media.
The House also urged the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture to sensitize the general public on the need to desist from unpatriotic act on the social media.
The resolution followed a motion raised under Matter of Urgent Public Importance at plenary by Honourable Jide Jimoh, a representative of Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency of Lagos.
Raising the motion, Hon. Jimoh observed that there have been influx of violent videos and threat posts on social media which may incite people towards violence and attempt to spread fear in the country.
Lawmakers at the plenary unanimously gave their support to the motion through their various contributions.
The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara who presided over the plenary therefore mandated the committee on Police Affairs, Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Public Safety and Intelligence, Defence, Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to organise a Stakeholders Forum on the emerging national threat through social media.
