Man City Confirm Agreement to Sign Monaco Midfield Maestro Bernardo Silva

Manchester City have announced the first signing of what is expected to be a busy summer for the club after reaching an agreement to sign Bernardo Silva from Monaco when the transfer window officially opens on 1st July.

Estimates place the fee at around £43m. It had initially been expected to be much higher.

Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “It feels great. To be honest I’m now at one of the best teams in the world. To be part of this club and to have this opportunity is great. I’m very happy to be part of Manchester City’s team and I look forward to trying to do my best to help the team reach their goals. If not the best coach in the world, he is one of the best.

“Of course when you have the opportunity of being trained by Guardiola, you don’t say no. As we all know, what he did in Barcelona and Bayern Munich was amazing and we expect also here that he will win titles. It’s great to be working with him and to have this opportunity.”

Having starred in the principality club’s Ligue 1 title triumph, as well as en-route to the Champions League semi-finals, the Portugal international is thought to arrived in Manchester on Thursday evening before undergoing a scheduled medical on Friday.

Silva played most of both games when City faced Monaco in the Champions League last 16, impressing audiences at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg and later registering an assist in the decisive return leg at Stade Louis II.

So far this summer, City have announced the impending June releases of Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Jesus Navas, Willy Caballero and Bacary Sagna.

Yaya Toure’s future still remains unknown.
