#Nnamdi Kanu: Tension High in Rivers As IPOB Protests

ipob_bayelsa23Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital has been electrified over continued agitation by supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who are demanding the immediate release of their detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu, who is also the Director of Radio Biafra, London, was arrested on his arrival in Nigeria in October over yet-to-be publicly disclosed charges.

He has been granted bail by the court, however, the Nigerian security forces have continued to detain him despite meeting the stringent bail condition.

The pro-Biafra supporters defiled early morning rain on Tuesday, besieged Port Harcourt city with a crowd from Aba, Abia State coupled with the crusaders of the secessionist group in Rivers State.

In a bid to avoid any encumbrances, the protesters have broken into group of four. The groups went through Whimpey-Iwofe road, Artillery, Oyigbo and UTC, which is close to the Rivers State Government House, respectively.

The protest, began on November 6, 2015 and has continued ever since.

The protesters in Port Harcourt were chanting anti-government songs and calling for the release of the anchor of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Security operatives including the Military, DSS and Police are on red alert to forestall any possible breakdown of Law.

The operatives are in every strategic location in the state. Air Police are also carrying out aerial surveillance.

The IPOB is also demanding for a creation of an independent State of Biafra from the present Nigeria.

Over eight million pro-Biafran activists have participated in the protest.
