Nwobodo Lauds Igbo-Eze South Council Boss

The Commissioner for Commerce, Industries and Technology in Enugu State, Sam Ogbu Nwobodo Esq. has lauded the efforts of the Igbo-Eze South local Government council for giving unflinching support to the development of the State.

Barr. Nwobodo appreciated the unalloyed and selfless efforts of the Chairman, Chief Hon. Dr. fidelis Odo in sustaining and improving on the tempo of development of the Council since the inception his assumption of office.

He disclosed that he was impressed with the leadership of Igbo-Eze South thus; “Am proud, happy and excited to be here. It is a show of solidarity and togetherness.

“Your LGA is cohesive. You are a capable leader” and thanked the stakeholders for coming.

The Commissioner, who spoke in the just concluded Enugu State International Trade Fare, said that the essence of the fare is to involve everyone of them, adding that he is happy to say that all the LGAs embraced it with the whole hands and commended the commissioners for Local Government and Chieftaincy matters.

He noted that under Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the economy continues to grow, arguing that to move the economy forward, it involves all of them saying: “please cure into Nsukka Chambers of Commerce, what I saw is O k. It should   be packaged better because Rome was not build in a day.

“We can package it better, take more apprentices, discover talent. It is a good product. Let us cure into the economic renaissance on-going in Enugu State. This trade fare is our own”.

Earlier, the chairman of the Council, Chief Hon. Dr Fidelis Odo in his brief speech had conducted the commissioner round the displayed Agricultural products from the local Government which in include ‘Okpakara’ ‘Akwu’, ‘echicha’ Plantain, ‘Nkashi’, ‘Una’, Pineapple, ‘Ugu’, ‘Aki’, and also presented the delicacies which also include ‘echicha’, ‘agharagha- Oka’ and ‘Una’(bitter yam).

Dr. Odo explained that the delicacies especially bitter yam may be the reason why they have a high population of old people in their place, stating that it runs along longevity because while others go for supergiant, macrony and others that are only with preservatives their own is direct from the farm.

Fidelis Odo spoke also on exportable products saying that it was an opportunity to bring out their craft or skill from the remote part of the LGA Iheaka Community where several young men are involved in manual production of accessories, using old vehicle tyres to produce pedals, brake pads, exhaust hanger, among others.

He said the products are being exported through Nnewi cameroun, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and other African Countries showing that Igbo-Eze South is another China in Nigeria and that the items compete with that of the Chinese favourably and because of the mechanized Nature of the Chinese they produce more, calling on Government to synergize with Igbo-Eze south in order to empower the people.

Hon. Moses Eze, Supervisor for Agriculture and Veterinary said that his position is on advisory capacity in Igbo-Eze South but noted that the Council exports palm kernel, adding that the Chairman does his best and encourages farmers very well and intimated that the mechanized farming is the one with tractor.

Mrs Bene Ukwueze, Secretary of the Council said that virtually in all the areas, the women contributed to the growth of the economy, adding that 8o% of Igbo-Eze South economy is done by women.

Barr. Ogbuja Ogbu who spoke on behalf of Ekoyi Recyclers industry said that their motto is waste to use, adding that they need further assistance from Government, noting that the earlier four million naira (N4m) grant was not enough.
