The founder and president of the Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua Foundation, Hajiya Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua has received the Sardauna/Azikiwe National Unity Award 2018 as Icon of National Unity and Human Capital Development.
The award and a certificate of adoption as a National Unity Ambassador were presented to her by the Convener/National Coordinator of I Belong To One Nigeria Initiative, Comrade James Ezema, during her birthday celebration on June 6, 2019.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Convener of the group, the award was part of the organisation’s efforts towards “recognising individuals and corporate bodies’ contributions to the promotion of national unity, peace and harmonious coexistence in the country.
“Therefore, in fulfilling its mandate, the national Stirring Committee of the I Belong To One Nigeria Initiative in 2018 instituted the Sardauna/Azikiwe National Unity Award as a platform for recognition of individuals and cooperate entities that have at one time or the other contributed to the promotion of peace and national unity in the country.
“It is our way of encouraging and motivating citizens to do more in promoting selfless service to the nation and stirring up a patriotic spirit in all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation”, he noted.
The group stated that “through her foundation and personal efforts, Amb. Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua has given hope to many Nigerians, especially the vulnerable members of the society.
“She has proven to be a bridge, having been born in Kano State, hails from the Southern part of the country and married to a northerner.
“Though a widow of late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, she was motivated by the laudable legacies of her husband to set up the Asabe Shehu Yar’Adua Foundation and have succeeded in putting smiles on the faces of less privileged citizens without religious or tribal barriers”, statement added.
