Nigerians have been charged to cooperate with security agencies in order to bring to an end security challenges facing the country.
The advice was given by the new Divisional Police Officer of Iponri police division, Mr. Tajudeen Olayinka Ogunlana, while being welcome by the members of Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) Iponri division, over the weekend.
Ogunlana, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) who said Iponri division is his fourth place to head as DPO in Lagos and 14th in Nigeria, stated that the police and other security agencies belongs to Nigerians and it’s their duty to determine how the security agencies will perform.
“You own the police and other security agencies, the way you want it to perform is the way they will perform. All we need is your support and encouragement.
“Praise us when we do well and call our attention when we do otherwise. We need your cooperation and understanding to make Iponri, Lagos and Nigeria a crime-free state”.
Ogunlana who described PCRC as the best police partner in combating crime and mutual relationship between the policy and the members of the public, commended his predecessors at the division for reduction in crime rate while promised to sustain the cooperation with the PCRC.
“With what I saw in this division, my predecessor have done well in ensuring peace in this community, and this I will sustain with the cooperation of the PCRC”.
Speaking at the event, the PCRC chairman Rotarian Akibu Bankole while welcoming the new DPO to the division, urged him to cooperate with the committee members and residents of the division just as his predecessors did. This he said will assist him in his zeal to bring crime to barest minimum.
“it was a very useful deliberation between the new DPO and the business community present at the meeting most especially, the bankers hoteliers, hospital management and other business owners”.
Bankole also called on the Committee’s members and all the residents of the community to fully cooperate with the new DPO and give out useful information that will assist the police in performing the job diligently. He also used the event to call on the members of the committee on regular payment of their dues.
