MIRACULOUS: How Nigeria Defeated Angola In First Afrobasket Title Win, Qualifying For Olympics

Nigeria’s D’Tigers on Sunday night defeated Angola 74-65 to claim their first ever AfroBasket Championship title and qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games men’s basketball event, TheStreetReporters.com reports.

Nigeria had in the semi-final defeated
Senegal Nigeria’s men’s basketball senior national team on Sunday made history in Rades, Tunisia in winning for the first time ever top spot at the 2015 FIBA African Basketball Championship, AfroBasket 2015, with a 74-65 cruise against former champions Angola.

D’Tigers defeated Angola for the first time in history as Ogide, Alade Aminu and Olaseni Lawal did an amazing job on the glass.

The team automatically qualifies for
the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Oguchi were named to the Afrobasket All-Star team.

According to TheEagleOnline, Oguchi was also named the Most Valuable Player of the 2015 Afrobasketball.

The Angola team had early lead
despite a lot of attempts made by the
Nigeria team.

Al Farouq Aminu scored one of the
free throws the team had and another 2 pointer to make the score 7-3 in favour of Angola at the early stage, thanks to Chamberlin Oguchi’s 3 points that made the score 7-6.

The Nigeria side look better but they
were not confident at the early of the game.

The South African team did not miss too much of free throws in the first quarter.

Ogide scored one of his free throw and made the score line 13-10 in favour of Angola at the end of the quarter.

Free throw by Gbinije at the early second quarter gave Nigeria another 2 points yet Angola were having upper hands.

Ben Uzoh tried his best and made it
14-14. Nigeria won another free throw, it gave them 3 points to put Nigeria ahead of Congo 16-18 for the first time in the match before the Angola scored 3 points.

At this moment, Nigeria had woken up.

They started scoring their free throws and had a 3 points by Oguchi, which put Nigeria ahead of their opponents again, 19-23 in favour of D’Tigers.

ended 24-37 in D’Tigers’ favour at the end of the first half, free throw

favoured Nigeria in this quarter. Lawal had 10 points and 5 rebounds, while Oguchi scored 9 points.

D’Tigers came out in the third quarter decisively with another 2 points scored by Aminu.

Lawal foul’s foul earned Angola 2 points but this did not discourage Williams Voigt in their struggle to beat their arch rival as Nigeria added another 2 points but Angola quickly retaliated with 3 points and another 2 points.

Ogide again brought Nigeria’s lead to 11 points with his 2 points and
Oguchi’s free throw extended the lead to 14 points, the third quarter ended in 36-51.

The last quarter of the game was very interesting as D’Tigers kept scoring while the opponents unsuccessfully struggling to meet up as Oguchi and Alfarouq brought their hope to an end.

Senegal had stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games.
