The new Nsukka Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Dr. Ejike Fidelis Asadu has praised the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his determination to upgrade the status of the state.
Dr. Asadu said that the good works of the Governor could be seen, not only at the state capital which was now rising to become the cleanest capital city in the South Eastern Zone of the country, but at the Local Government and Township Levels.
He noted with admiration that the roads were being renewed, constructed and reconstructed to meet the challenges of modern day urbanization and enjoined the people to greet the Governor in a special way for the Nsukka/Opi dual carriage way and its street lightening as well as other road networks, which have given Nsukka a facelift to showcase its position and right of place as an Old District/Divisional Headquarters.
Asadu, a Doctor of Educational Administration and Planning, University of Nigeria, Nsukka who spoke when he took over the reigns of governance of the Local Government, yesterday, 5 September 2017 from Prof. Mrs. Rose Chinwe Onah, the erstwhile Chairman of the council, also prayed God in His infinite wisdom to continue to bless the Governor with good health and grace to lead Enugu State to the promised land.
He applauded the good works of the Honourable Commissioners and all stakeholders, including the distinguished members of the State Assembly who had demonstrated an uncommon and enviable level of team work and spirit, adding that that was why the state was making its mark in the annals of history despite the economic recession facing the whole country.
The tremendous achievements recorded so far, according to the Caretaker Chairman, were impressive and worthy of emulation and urged everybody to imbibe, assimilate and emulate the spirit of oneness and bring it to bear in the daily activities of the people that way, they would have contributed their individual and collective quota towards making Nsukka Local Government Area and by extension Enugu State to work.
Dr. Asadu, reminded the people of the tasks ahead, saying; “As we look forward to the incoming local government elections in the state, the Governor has deemed it necessary to appoint a Caretaker Chairman to hold the fort in every Local Government to keep the system healthy and stable until the emergence of an elected local government functionaries”.
He added that as a beneficiary to that mandate, he thanked His Excellency for the honour and trust bestowed on him with the promise that the Governor would not regret appointing him to the position.
The Caretaker Chairman also said, he had given the Governor his word that he would strive to do his best to ensure that there was a successful transition to an elected Local Government Functionaries in Nsukka Local Government Council and called on the people to partner with him in the tasks ahead.
He was of the view that the task before the people demanded focus, faithfulness, uprightness, dedication, wisdom, grace and perseverance, assuring that with God on their side, they would provide good leadership through effective service delivery for the benefit and well being of the people.
Dr. Asadu, however, warned that this transition period should not be a period of unguarded, unguided or unbridled radicalism, neither would it be a period of indolence, rather, it would be a period of progressive peace, pro-activism and consolidation of the gains of democracy.
He, therefore, stretched forth his hands of fellowship to all stakeholders and the entire good people of Nsukka Local Government Area.
According to him, “divided we fall, but united we stand”, calling on the politicians, businessmen and women, church leaders, social and traditional institutions, the trade unions, organized labour and journalists to learn from Governor Ugwuanyi the values of team work so that we could succeed and move the Local Government forward.
