Nigeria at 59: How Council Held Independence Anniversary

The activities marking the 2019 Independence day anniversary celebration were held at Ibagwa-Aka, the Headquarters of Igbo-Eze South Local Government of Enugu State on the independent day with fanfare.

Addressing the capacity-filled Government Field venue of the event, the council Chairman, Dr. Fidelis Odo,
a business mogul and an administrator, advised the youths to emulate the life style of the founding fathers of the Country in all they do.

He thanked the royal fathers, former Chairmen, stakeholders and the local education authority for their consistent support, noting that leadership derives its relevance from a willing followership as exemplified in Igbo-Eze South.

He promised that the council will never fail in its responsibilities.

According to him, the council is up to date in all salaries and allowances, even as he noted that various projects were  being undertaken by his administration.

He further stated that with rain subsiding, there will be aggressive rural roads rehabilitation to lessen the suffering of the people.

He further stated that the attainment of 59 years of nationhood was as a result of the hard work of the founding fathers & other stakeholders of the Country, notwithstanding the potpouri of issues challenging the developmental index of the nation.

“As youths, your good conduct should help to shape the society, knowing that the future of the Country depended on you as the leaders of tomorrow”, he said.

The Chairman was flanked by his deputy, Hon. Sunday Ajogwu, the Chairman of the traditional rulers, Igwe Ikechukwu Oke, the representative of the DPO, Supol Jeremiah Ugwu, Prof. Edward Godsmark Ugwu, the Chairman’s wife, Prof. Uchenna Odo in his audience, also admonished the youths to imbibe the spirit of discipline and hard work to be able to face the challenges ahead.

Chief Odo took the salute alongside the representative of the Divisional Police Officer and the Divisional Officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Eze Chioma from Nursery, Primary & Secondary School Children and uniformed organisations, among others.

The event featured cultural dance from various Schools in the Council Area.

Those present include Moses Eze, Cyprian Omeye, Joe Ugwu, Casmir Ukwunna, and Eze Nasir Uchenna.

Others in include Igwes Joseph Arua,OBJ Udaya, Christopher Arua, Vincent Ugwuanyi, Felix Nnamani, Lazarus Ugwuoke, Jerome Ugwu, Dr. Christopher Nnamani, Dr. Emma Ukwueze and Bernard Ugwu.

Also present were Fidelis Onyishi, Ezenwankwo Hyacinth, Paulinus Agbo, Mrs Victoria Agbo, Abah Felicia, Osujo Egbulifiaku, Barr. Barnabas Ugwuoke, Joseph Ezeugwu, Eugene Ugwuanyi, Mrs Felicitas Eze, Sir Christian Eze, Hon. Christopher Omeje, Anthony Udaya, among others.
