Northern Group Alerts on Fresh Lies by Lai Mohammed

The Northern Democratic Forum has frowned at a statement credited to Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of sabotage, saying it is unfortunate.

Malam Jibril Tafida, chairman of the Forum, who made the observation, said the statement fits perfectly into the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration’s blame game.

“Since 2015, the federal government has abdicated its responsibility of protecting lives and property in the country and keeps recycling excuses for its ineptitude.

“Last week, the same line of excuses continued but this time, the story has changed as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai blamed the spate of killings on the politicians who lost last elections.

“Simultaneously, Minister of Information and Culture accused PDP and Atiku Abubakar of sabotage and overheating the polity, in a bid to make Nigeria ungovernable,” he said.

He said however the Minister failed to justify his claim that the PDP has made inciting ‘’public utterances and poorly thought out press releases,’’ beyond expressing legitimate concerns over possible conflict of interests regarding Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa.

“Nigerians are sick and tired of the antics of the federal government, whose penchant for blaming everyone but President Buhari, the nation’s Chief Security Officer, for the worsening insecurity in the country has become embarrassingly scandalous.

“The security situation is so alarming that the Senate had to describe the Kaduna-Abuja road as the most dangerous road in Africa because of the activities of kidnappers and armed robbers.

“At the moment, some parts of Katsina state are under siege as bandits have chased residents of many villages away. Some residents of Jibiya town have relocated to Niger republic in order to save their lives.

“More embarrassing is that recently, the in-laws of President Buhari and Governor Masari were abducted in Daura and Katsina respectively.

“Yet instead of finding a lasting solution to the kidnappings, killings and criminality that have become the lot of most Nigerians, the government is trying to find a scapegoat for its glaring failure. Aclear case of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it.

“Nigerians have seen through this red herring and they have heard too many excuses in the last four years and would not accept any attempt by the APC government to intimidate PDP presidential candidate to accept what even international community see as rape on our democracy,” Tafida said.
