Reps Minority Leader Congratulates Wike, Umahi, Over Supreme Court Victory

Reps Minority Leader and Member Representing Isoko Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Leo Ogor, has congratulated the Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike and his Ebonyi State counterpart Engr. Dave Umahi on the reaffirmation of their electoral victories by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Ogor said the verdict of the apex court “on the case of the Rivers state governor is a victory for the good people of the oil rich state,  democracy and a vindication of the people’s long-drawn struggle for justice,” adding that “it is also a tiding of good hope for all lovers of democracy.”

The federal lawmaker noted that the verdict of the Supreme Court on Rivers and Ebonyi states gubernatorial election had gone a long way in restoring the hope and confidence of the Nigerian people on the sanctity of the judiciary and commended the apex court for standing firm in the defence of the law and constitution of the land.

He also praised the Nigeria Judiciary for its courage and efforts towards redeeming the nation’s democracy and political process.

The lawmaker further congratulated the people of Rivers and Ebonyi  states for their patience and understanding especially in view of the long painful process to affirm their mandate given to Governors Nyesom Wike and Dave Umahi.

“I am happy that the Nigeria judiciary is rekindling hope in our electoral process and in our country generally. This is so because the judiciary is sending the right signal to the general public.”

“The Supreme Court has acted well in setting the standard and precedence for proper interpretation of our electoral procedures,” noting that with the standard set by the apex court, “the contradictory verdicts experienced in the appellate courts will not repeat itself in the years ahead.”

“It is my wish that their opponents, will join hands with them and other well meaning indigenes of Rivers and Ebonyi States for the continuous rapid development of their states which the administrations of Wike and Umahi has started since assumption of office.

“The Supreme Court victory on the election of Governors Wike and Umahi, is not for the People’s Democratic Party, or their families  alone but for the good people of Rivers and Ebonyi states.”
