The Professor of Soil Science in his brief biography posted on the university website claimed that he was born at Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria on August 23, 1958.

However, a certificate of statutory declaration of age  dated August 7, 1974 at then East Central State and sworn to on his behalf by one Wilfred Igwe as his father, as obtained by The Street Reporters Newspaper, revealed that Charles Igwe was born on August 23, 1955. not August 23, 1958. 

From April 28, 2016 to June 28, 2018 he has Acted for the Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria for 29 times. 

The current management team of the institution has been accused of not living up to the expectations of the people of the state and the country.

15 shortlisted contestants for the position of the Vice-Chancellor for the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) are currently undergoing final interview ahead of possible announcement of a new VC on Friday.
